Obituary of Melvin Sanftleben

The family of Mel Sanftleben sadly announce his passing on Wednesday, July 28, 2010. Mel will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Joan and his children Kathleen (Warren) Schick, Keith (Amber) Sanftleben, Jane (Mark Godlien) Sanftleben, Laura (Kevin Bowes) Sanftleben and Linda Sanftleben; granddaughters Kristen Schick and Amanda Spiers; grandson Tuloro Sanftleben and great-granddaughter Makenzie Spiers. Also left to mourn are his brother Howard (Phyllis) Sanftleben, sister Lois Wernicke, brother-in-law James (Lorraine) Banner, Aunt Ann Ford, Aunt Gen Fletcher and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents George and Hazel Sanftleben and brother-in-law Walter Wernicke. After spending 13 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, Mel moved to Melville, SK where he farmed and worked on the CNR. He was very active in his church communities, an avid gardener and a voracious reader. All who knew him will miss his quiet and gentle manner. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2010 in St. Marys Anglican Church, 3337 15th Avenue, Regina. His ashes will be interred in Calgary, AB at a later date. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff on the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital, as well as to the doctors and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic.
