Obituary of Allan Edward Winder

WINDER, Allan Edward Allan Edward Winder passed away peacefully at home with family at his side on Friday, November 28, 2008. Allan Edward Winder, late of Regina, Saskatchewan was born July 24, 1941 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to John (Jack) Edward Winder and Ada Kathleen (Kay) Winder. Ed or Eddie, as he was known to his family and friends throughout the years, was predeceased by an infant son, his father, John (Jack) Winder, his mother, Ada Kathleen (Kay) Winder, his brothers, Donald Andrews and Jackie King, his sister, Marjorie Freeland, brothers-in-law, Lionel Freeland and George Newstead, sister-in-law, Phyllis King and an infant sister. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Melissa Winder, he will ever be loved and missed by his son, James (Colette) Winder and their children, Desirae, Amber, her son Brody, and Jesse, all of Regina, his daughter, JoAnne (Bart) Arnold and their children, Isaiah and Nehemiah of Saskatoon, his daughter, Jeneen Winder and her children, Dustyn, Jordan, Dakota, Chase and Montana of Regina, his sisters, Lillian Andrews of Edmonton and May Newstead of Moose Jaw, his brothers, Irvine (Elinor) Andrews of Petawawa and Gordon (Darlene) Winder of Moose Jaw, his loving and loyal dog, Benji, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, large extended family and friends. Ed was raised on the family farm outside Moose Jaw until his father moved the family into town in 1951. After his dad passed away in 1952, Ed spent numerous years together with his family taking care of his mother until she passed away in 1997. Ed was a truck driver for over 40 years working for Scott National, Kleysen Transport, Weston Bakeries, Blanchard Transport and most recently EBD Enterprises Inc. Ed enjoyed his relationship with the people he met on the road and those he worked with in the trucking industry. Through the years, Ed worked as a heavy duty mechanic, but always felt the pull of the highway including turning his last wheel even after the onset of his illness. Ed loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and extended family whether it be by a campsite fire or around the supper table. He loved working on antique vehicles, fishing, camping and was an avid follower of Regina Pats including becoming a season ticket holder for the last three years leading him to someday retire. Ed will always be remembered as a strong, stubborn and loving man with a firm hand but a soft heart. The family wishes to extend a special thank you for the care provided to Ed by Dr. K. Kontsiotis, Dr. H. Hopkins, Dr. A. Moustapha, the nurses on Ward 3F of the Regina General Hospital and the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 from 6:30 " 8:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. A celebration of Eds life will be held on Friday, December 5, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 370 McIntosh Street North, Regina. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. in Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw, SK. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Regina Humane Society, P.O.
