Obituary of Wendy Patricia Davis

Wendy Patricia Davis began her journey here on January 23, 1949. While here, Wendy blossomed from a young girl into a beautiful and talented self-made woman, dedicating both her personal and professional life to helping and empowering others. Her career began initially as a mom and best friend to her son, Garnet and lifelong love, Wayne. Eventually stepping out of the home to spread her wings, she expanded her career path as a councilor at Transition House " a refuge for women in abusive relationships " and then as a program coordinator and residence director at the YWCA, where she was instrumental in the establishment of the Isabel Johnson Shelter for Women. Later, she went on to become the Director of Patient Services for the Saskatchewan Multiple Sclerosis Society where she established the first patient self-help group created to empower those living with MS so that they could have and use their own voice regarding their care and support. Building upon her professional and personal life experiences Wendy then went on to found Eldercare Connections home support services. She and her colleagues assisted many Regina seniors enjoy improved quality of life in their own homes. As an ongoing contributor to the community at large, Wendy was a member of the Saskatchewan Action Committee for the Status of Women, a board member of the Regina QuAppelle Health District, a benefactor to the REACH program " teaching kids in inner city schools how to prepare healthy meals for themselves and their families " and a co-founder, with her partner Wayne, of an annual apprenticeship scholarship for the top graduating female journey person in a male dominated trade. The latter summing up so eloquently all that Wendy was, and all that Wendy admired: The strength and determination and power of womankind, as well as, of course, humankind. Perpetually in motion, at the young age of fifty, the always-energetic Wendy returned to school, successfully graduating from the Sheffield School of Interior Design with a diploma in Professional Design and Decorating. She then added to her list of achievements, pursuing her love of decorating and design, and became an interior design consultant, founding a home renovation and design business with Wayne, called House Calls by McDavis. Wendy pursued her passions and career as she lived her lifes journeypursuing quality over quantity. Wendy began her new journey on November 29, 2008. She is probably comparing notes and sharing stories with her mom and dad, Marg and Harry Davis, her in-laws Herb and Alma McElree, and her close friends Harold and Glen Leonard. Among those left to celebrate her special time here with us include her soul mate of some 40 years Wayne McElree, their son Garnet Davis McElree and partner Dave, her devoted Aunt Isabel Prette, her brother- and sister-in-law Mervin and Doreen McElree, and their children Tanya (Pat) Mengel and son Sammy, and Michael (Kari) McElree. As well as close friends Georgie Leonard, Art and Elaine Hunter, Diane Neale, Betty Mae MacQuarrie, Anne Edwards and Susan Armitage. In the spirit of Wendy, in lieu of flowers, we urge you to please do your part to make a positive change in the world. However small the deed " be it a kind gesture, a hug, a compliment, or committing to a cause bigger than yourself. This is how Wendy lived her life. And this is how Wendy lives on. Wendy, have a wonderful new journey. We love you.
