Obituary of Marie Simeon

SIMEON " Marie Simeon, late of Regina, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the age of 103 years. Predeceased by her parents Jorge and Dragica; sisters, Olga, Edith, and Daisy; brothers, Alexander and Milton. Marie is survived by her nieces, Evelyn Barnes Federoniak of Thunder Bay, Pearl Stone of Regina; nephew Melvin; as well as numerous grand-nephews and nieces and their families. Marie, a 1929 Graduate of Dayden Academic de Modes de Paris? (Parisian Design) in Paris, France, an accomplished specialist in individual designing of gowns, suits, coats, dresses, bridal attire and Milliner. She had a design studio in Regina from 1930 to 1985 at Rose and 11th Avenue. Marie imported exclusive materials from several countries such as Switzerland, France etc. for her studio. Many of her fashions appeared in fashion shows in Regina, Minneapolis and New York. Also many of her gowns were often displayed by Saskatchewan representatives in the drawing room at Parliament functions in Ottawa as well as Regina. She designed a gown for Mrs. Motherwell, wife of Minister of Agriculture, who was honored and presented to the Queen of England at Buckingham Pa-*lace due to her being a nurse who served in Vimy Ridge in the battle fields with Canadian soldiers. Marie and her sister Olga served as directors for the Manitou Beach Restoration Society at Watrous, SK for a number of years. Marie was the daughter of Jorge and Dragica Simeon who immigrated from Carrn, Austria and farmed in 1902 at Rouleau, SK then farmed north-west of Regina for many years. Marie was a member of the Apostolic Christian Nazarean Church, she studied music and was a soloist in her church on many occasions. Thanks to Lolita Atendido, Florita Duyanen, Edita Mariano and Josephine Valdez for their many years of devoted and loving care, fulfilling Maries wish to remain in her own home until the end. Thanks to Dr. Elliott and Dr. DeWitt for their house calls over the years. Thank you also to the nursing staff of Home Care and Unit 3D at the Pasqua Hospital. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 from 7:00 " 8:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel with Pastor Douglas Savin officiating. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens.
