Obituary of Leo Joseph Fichter

FICHTER " Leo passed away peacefully on December 1, 2008 at Regina General Hospital with family by his side. He was born in Lampman on March 6, 1932 to Joseph and Katherine Fichter. Predeceased by his son Tommy in 1974, parents, sister Kay, and brothers John, Sig, Frank and twin brother Ed. Leo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann (Grimes), daughters: Susan (Brent) Hanna, Moose Jaw, Darcy Thiesen (Paul Shalansky), Victoria, BC; Cindy (Don) McMorris, Regina; his grandchildren, Jennifer Hanna Woodworth, Jordan Hanna, Riley Thiesen (Zuri), Dustin Thiesen (Nikki) and his three great-grandsons, Kaleb and Kolby Woodworth, and Jackson Thiesen. He is also survived by his sisters, Margaret Turner, Pauline Wolshyn, Edith MacRae, Ann Kurz, and Flora Getzlaf. Leos family was his first love and he looked forward to their visits and hearing about their activities. Leo was always a very active member of his community and church, serving on several boards. His risk-taking nature allowed him to try many adventures in his life from driving city bus in Winnipeg, custom combining in the U.S. or buying flax straw for Olin Fibre. His true passion though, was farming, which he started on his own, at the age of 30. Leo and Ann sold their farm at Redvers in 1996 and moved to Regina. However, he never really retired as he always helped out on Dons farm and adjusted hail for Wray Agencies during the summer. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Resurrection Church, 3155 Windsor Park Road, Regina at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2008 with Father Stephen Bill, celebrant. Interment will take place in Redvers in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation, 225 " 1874 Scarth Street, Regina S4P 4B3.
