Obituary of Helen Ethelynn Wallace

WALLACE " HELEN ETHELYNN (LYNN) WALLACE 4 June 1908 " 25 December 2008 Born in Toronto, Lynn spent her formative years in Kitchener/Waterloo. After a few years of working for Dominion Life, she married Hal and raised two children, Duncan and Elizabeth. She and her family moved to Winnipeg and subsequently she and Hal moved on to Edmonton. Following Hals retirement, they spent half of each of the next few years traveling the world and the other half at the family summer cottage at West Hawk Lake, Manitoba where they enjoyed many projects and family gatherings. Her grandchildren spent many summers at the lake and look back on those times with great appreciation. (Some people suspect that their parents sent the grandchildren to Lynn and Hal to learn table manners, among many other social skills.) Eventually Lynn and Hal settled in BC at Parksville and then Qualicum Beach. Hal died in 1986 and Lynn continued on in Qualicum until moving to Regina in 1997. She lived first at QuAppelle House and then the William Booth Special Care Home, both of whose staff gave faithful care as her health declined and she was less and less able to care for herself. Her family is very grateful to those caring people. Lynn was an active member of her church in every place where she lived and often took on a leadership role in parish projects. She was always involved in sports, beginning with track and field in her younger days and then for many years with curling and golf. She was an accomplished seamstress, providing countless outfits for her family. Lynn is survived by her son Duncan (Mary Emily) Wallace, and daughter Elizabeth (Colin) Gorrie; by grandchildren Lisa (Mike) Markesteyn, Andrew (Rayna) Wallace, Gavin Gorrie and Katya Gorrie; by great-grandchildren Drew and Maeva Markesteyn, and Noah Wallace, and Zachary Gorrie. Cremation. A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Thursday, January 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Pauls Cathedral, 1861 McIntyre St., Regina. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Edmunds Churchyard, Parksville. Please, no flowers. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Pauls Cathedral Building in Faith program, 1861 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R2. An on-line book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
