Obituary of David Brown Forgie

FORGIE, David Dave? Brown " October 26, 1922 " January 5, 2009 It is with great sadness that the family announces Daves passing in the Regina General Hospital after suffering several strokes. Predeceased by his mother Sarah; father John; brothers, John, Hugh and Kennedy; sisters, Mary, Margaret and Sarah Sal?. Dave is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Ruth; son David (Gisele), New Westminster, BC; daughters, Sharon (Gene) Scheidl, Comox BC, Laura Forgie, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, (Ned Herperger), and Sheila Garner (Dan Aren), Regina; five grandchildren, Christine Erdos, Andrew (Nicole) Scheidl, Curtis (Candace) Schmidt, Nikita Garner, Kelsey Garner; eleven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Melvin Parker; sister-in-law Norma Folk; close nephew Jim Simpson; and good friends Norm Brooks and Bill Carey. Dave attended Kitchener School and Balfour Tech before joining his father and brothers in Forgies Bakery, first in the bakeshop and then on deliveries. He had a short apprenticeship as a plumber with Ruths father David Gaul, and then later worked for Hudson Paper (Crown Zellerbach). He also worked with the Sask Liquor Board, in the stores, and lastly, as a warehouseman. As a member of the Regina Rifles and the South Saskatchewan Regiment, he served in World War II in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Dave was always easy going, loved helping others, ready and quick with the one liners, great sense of humor, and always willing to share his war stories. His smile, quick wit and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Thanks to those who helped him out, especially after he gave up driving, and who visited him with his operations and recoveries over the past few years. Special thanks to Maria Folk, Dr. Logan and the nursing staff on 3E. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dave to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 " 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
