Obituary of Gerald Peter McLellan

McLELLAN " Gerald Peter McLellan Q.C. died at Regina, January 5, 2009 due to complications related to his valiant fight with cancer. He was predeceased by his father, Peter McLellan; mother, Carol McLellan; and three sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Wanda; adored and adoring daughters, Carol Anne (Frank Kosturik) and Lesley (Patrick Brown); grandchildren, Kathryn, Lauren, Sarah and Meredith; sister, Katherine Sanford of Vancouver; mother-in-law, Annie Thompson of Bienfait and a host of friends, new and old, who hold his memory in high regard. GP was born at Arcola, SK March 9, 1932. Following his schooling in Arcola, he attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with degrees in law and commerce. After articling to Noonan, Embury and Heald, he practiced law as in-house counsel for Co-operators Insurance in Regina. Subsequently, he moved to Estevan where he practiced law for many years with the firm of Hill McLellan Ball Cundall & Bridges. In 1987 he was appointed Ombudsman for the Province of Saskatchewan, which position he occupied with distinction until 1993. GP served as a Bencher of the Law Society of Saskatchewan from 1976 to 1982 and was elected as a Trustee for the Estevan Board of Education. GP McLellan will be remembered as an honourable man who was devoted to his family, loved life and enjoyed the many friendships he made along the way. In earlier years he found pleasure curling and golfing although he disliked two foot putts. In his later years he played duplicate bridge and walked regularly at the Field House and in Wascana Park.
