Obituary of Dr. Lei Ching Wong (Kuan)

WONG (KUAN) " On Friday, January, 9, 2009, Dr. Lei Ching Wong, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 86 years. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was influential in the lives of all people she came in contact with. Predeceased by her parents, George and Chu Kwai Yung Wong; her husband Peter in 1992; her stepmother, Helen Wong; siblings Pui Ching (Chan Fat Yuen), Alice, May, Ken (Lynn), Lei Ching is survived by her daughter, Paula; son David (Roberta); grandchildren, Zackary, Kendall; brother-in-law Douglas; half-sister Mary-Lee (Earl); and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins. Dr. Wong was the first female paediatrician in Moose Jaw and Regina. She practiced for over 40 years in Regina with children with special needs and diabetes. Her commitment to diabetic care led her to establish the paediatric diabetes clinic at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Dr. Wong was also committed to the spiritual needs of all people. Dr. Wong, alongside her husband, were founding members of the Regina Chinese Alliance Church and the Canadian Chinese Youth Winter Conference. She loved music, cooking and knitting. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Regina Chinese Alliance Church, 3010 Arens Road E. with Rev. Gershom Ng and Pastor David Fong officiating. Committal service follows at Riverside Memorial Park. Donations may be made, in memoriam, to the Dr. Lei Ching Wong Memorial Scholarship at Ambrose University College, 150 Ambrose Circle SW, Calgary, AB, T3H 0L5 (Attn: Velma Warnock).
