Obituary of James Roland Gallenger

GALLENGER " It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden and tragic passing of Jim Gallenger, while at work, on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the age of 49 years. Jim is predeceased by his mother, Leona (Rainville) Gallenger in 1997 and is survived by his loving wife Sharon (Hanofski), son Trevor (Kim) grandson Tanner; daughter Crystal (Curtis Muhr); father, Joseph Gallenger, Godmother Aunty Pat Lasby; sisters Darlene (Ken Spock); Brenda (Mike) Abrahamowicz; brother Mick; mother-in-law Zena Honofski, all of Regina; brothers-in-law Brian (Maxine), McLean; David, Lipton; Barry, Regina; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Jim was born on November 16, 1959 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He attended St. Josephs Elementary School and Miller High School. He met the love of his life, constant companion and best friend, Sharon, in 1979 and married her on March 24, 1990. Jim was a devoted and loving father, who had a special and close relationship with his son, Trevor, and daughter Crystal. He was thrilled to be a new Grandpa and Tanner was his pride and joy. Jim was happiest at home, enjoying his wifes cooking, spending time with family and friends, and pursuing his favourite hobby and pastime, woodworking and home and garden renovations. Jim was an exceptionally talented, gifted and self-taught craftsman. He enjoyed watching sports, and the Home and Garden Channel and was a devoted Saskatchewan Roughrider fan. Numerous vacations to Calgary and Banff with Sharon were special times. He enjoyed long walks with his wife and his special canine companion, Max. Jim never shied away from hard work and was always quick to lend a helping hand to others, even until his last breath. Jim serviced 30 years with the Department of Highways. Jim leaves many behind to mourn his loss and cherish his memory. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina.
