Obituary of Hilda Magda Helene Seltenrich

SELTENRICH, HILDA MAGDA HELENE - It is with a profound sadness and a great sense of loss that the family of Hilda announces her passing at the Santa Maria Nursing Home on Saturday, January 17, 2009. Hilda was predeceased by her beloved son, Arthur James, her parents Nick and Elsa, and by her brother Harold. Our beloved mother, grandmother, wife and friend is survived by her husband James, her daughters Joanne and Ellen (Richard), her grandchildren Graeme (Christina), Ian, Bradley and Trina, her sisters Olga, Lillian, and Ruth (Stanley), as well as her many nieces and nephews. Hilda was born on her family farm near Strongfield, Sk. She grew up on the farm and loved working with her father and the animals. At the age of seventeen she trained at Normal School in Moose Jaw and became a teacher. Teaching brought her back to the Bonnie View area. In 1946 she met her husband James on his discharge from the Air Force. They were married in Bonnie View Church on October, 25, 1947. Hilda loved her life in Loreburn and was an active member of the community. She participated in and enjoyed curling and softball. She was an involved member of the Loreburn United Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was an active member of the United Church Women. She was also involved with many other community groups, too numerous to mention. She was proud of helping Jim on the farm and of her gardening, cooking and baking, especially her bread. She loved being involved in the lives of her daughters, watching them participate in music concerts and sports. Later in life she continued the tradition by playing ball with them on the senior team. She was a renowned pitcher for the team. When she could no longer participate in sporting events she continued her support of her grandchildrens sporting activities and dance recitals. Following retirement, Hilda and Jim moved to Saskatoon where she continued her active lifestyle. Hilda enjoyed her many friends at the Nutana Curling Club and at the Royal Canadian Legion. A family service will be held Saturday. A funeral service and interment will be held in Loreburn at a later date. Donations in memory of Hilda may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, #301 " 2550 " 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.
