Obituary of Lois Jean' Zora

ZORA " Lois Jean Zora, 94, of North Vancouver and formerly of Regina and Truax, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness in Evergreen House on January 26, 2009. Jean is lovingly remembered by her daughter Joan (Larry) Achtemichuk and their children Thomas (Natalie) and David; daughter in-law Anita Parmenter and her children Colette, Corey (Lisa); sisters, Wilma Shisko and Myrna Nesbitt; sisters-in-law Alice Powell, Rose, Marie, Jean and Bea Zora and many very special nieces and nephews. Jean was predeceased by her mother Mabel (Edminston) Powell; her father Norman Powell; husbands Vernon Parmenter and Eugene Zora; her son, Earl Parmenter; brothers Elmer (Norm) and Herb Powell; brothers-in-law Alex Shisko, Elwood Nesbitt, Dan Zora; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Powell; Eleanor (Nora) Zora; Elizabeth (Betty) Zora. Jean was born the oldest of five children at Truax, Saskatchewan on October 5, 1914. She attended school in Truax (Rose Bud), Rouleau, Brandon, and graduated with a teaching certificate from the Moose Jaw Normal School. Jean married Vernon Parmenter of Rouleau in 1939. After teaching for four years, she took time off to have two children. In 1947 Vernon passed away and Jean returned to teaching. In 1955 she married Eugene Zora and moved to his farm in Victoria Plains and continued teaching until her retirement. After selling their farm in 1974, they moved to Regina where Jean began her hobby of painting and joined the Prairie Artist Guild. She also enjoyed swimming, reading, bridge, taking classes, genealogy and travelling. Shortly after Eugene passed away in 1997 Jean moved to the Marion Chateau and then in 2005 to North Vancouver to be near her daughter. Jean was a loving, caring mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, teacher and friend. She cherished the time spent with family and friends and took special delight in being with young children. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to United Church Housing (Mutchmor Lodge), 328 Century Crescent, Regina, SK S4T 6M1.
