Obituary of Alma Gertrude McEwan

Alma G. (Eckert), Long, McEwan November 4, 1918 " February 11, 2009 Alma passed peacefully early in the morning with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. She was born in Beausejour, Manitoba and grew up and spent many of her adult years in Carlyle, Saskatchewan, the 4th child in a family of eleven, all except two, have predeceased her. Survived by her only child, Margaret (John) Lynch and her grandsons, Kirby-Jay and Kelly (Carla) Kirch, who she loved best of all. Also survived by her sister, Alyce Stockton of Carlyle and her brother Bill (Vivian) Eckert of Saskatoon, many nieces and nephews and Charlies family. Alma married F.M. (Mose) Long in 1940 and lived their married life in Carlyle. Mose died in 1962 and after being a widow for ten years, Alma married Charlie McEwan in 1972 and moved with him first to Manitoba and then to British Columbia. Kirby and Kelly have many wonderful memories of summers spent in the Queen Charlotte Islands with Nan and Uncle Charlie. After Charlie died in 1990 Alma moved to Regina to be closer to Margaret and her beloved grandsons. She was an avid sports fan and loved nothing more than to sit with John, Kirby and Kelly and debate the sports news of the day. She kept them on their toes, her knowledge was truly impressive. Margaret and John are so grateful for the wonderful care Alma received on 4A at the Pasqua Hospital and would like to thank every one of the nursing staff that cared so gently for her. Dr. DeWitt is a marvel, never too busy to return calls and answer questions. He has our deepest gratitude. There will be no funeral at Almas request. A graveside service will be held in the summer at Carlyle. The family gratefully declines flowers. If friends so wish, a donation to the Regina Humane Society, PO. Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7, in Almas memory would be very much appreciated. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
