Laura Evelyn Carter

Laura was born to the late Albert and Gudrun Tenold on November 1, 1920 in Marienthal, Saskatchewan. She grew up in Torquay and trained to become a teacher, attending Luther College, the University of Saskatchewan, where she obtained her B.A. degree. On January 13, 1944, she married the late Fredrick Carter of London, England who was stationed in Estevan, Saskatchewan with the R.A.F. In 1944, Fred was drafted back to England. Their son, Henry, was born in England in June, 1945 and the family returned to Canada in 1947. Their second son, Barry, was born in 1952, in Regina, where Fred worked at the Government Printing Company. Laura continued her career in teaching with the Regina Public School System and completed her B.Ed. degree. Laura was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Women and took much comfort in her membership at Central Lutheran Church. She enjoyed bowling, swimming, reading, crafts, and lively conversation with her friends and family. Laura is predeceased by her sisters, Millie McWhinney and Elaine Haldorson, with whom she was very close and loved. She will also be greatly missed by her brothers, Gordon Tenold, and Ole Tenold, and his wife, Kay, and Lauras brother-in-law, Walter Haldorson. Laura was also greatly loved and appreciated by her sons, Henry, of Camrose, Alberta and Barry, of Ottawa, Ontario. Henrys wife, Lynn, and their children Michael, of Edmonton, and Shantelle, of Regina, will greatly miss Laura; as will Barrys wife, Anne, and their son, Daniel, of London, Ontario. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., in Santa Maria Nursing Home Chapel, 4215 Regina Avenue, Regina. In lieu of flowers, Laura would have wanted donations to the University of Alberta Augustana Campus, 4901-46 Avenue, Camrose, AB, T4V 2R3.
