Obituary of Ronald Edgar Jones

Jones - R.E. (Ron), beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend on Valentines Day 2009 with his wife and children by his side after a sudden brain hemorrhage. He was predeceased by his mother Martha, father Thomas, brothers George and Gordon, and son-in-law Nicholas Van der Gucht. Ron was born October 6, 1931 in Winnipeg where he lived until transferring to Regina in 1972. In Winnipeg, Ron met his loving wife of over 50 years, Beverley (nee Lawson) at St. Stephens Broadway United where he sang in the choir. Ron loved his dog Abbe, swimming at the Lawson Aquatic Centre, singing with various choirs, his work in sales, his involvement in the community through the churches of Lakeview United and St. Pauls Anglican, the Regina North Rotary Club, the Regina Music Festival, Clare Parker House and other numerous community organizations. He loved his friends, neighbours on Wheaton Crescent and his family. Ron will be missed by his wife Beverley, sister-in-law Jean, sons Calvin (Sandy) and Jeffrey (Maureen), daughter Diane Van der Gucht, grandchildren Michael, Margo, Simon, Hugh and Emma; nieces Shaun Roen and Carolyn (Les) Major, and nephews Glenn (Nada), David (Debbie), and Kevin (Carla). A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009 at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina with Dean James D. Merrett of St. Pauls Cathedral and Rev. David Eskdale of Lakeview United Church officiating. A special thanks to all the staff at the Regina General Hospital Medical ICU: Drs. Van der Meer, Jones, Leroux, and Zacharias; and Pam, Heather, Christine and Amanda for their very considerate care. As Dad was part of the 2009 Heart and Stroke Month canvassing team when he died, a donation in memoriam to the Foundation at 279-3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8 would be appreciated.
