Obituary of Bernard (Bernie) Joseph MacNeill

MacNeill, Bernard March 25, 1930 " March 7, 2009 MacNeill, Bernard " On Saturday, March 7, 2009, Bernie, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at Regina, at age 79. Bernie was predeceased by his father Walter; mother Ethel; brother Leonard; sister Helen; brother-in-law Walter Hill; and sister-in-law Pauline Keck (wife of Walter). He leaves to mourn his wife, Janice; daughters, Shannon (Russ) Folk of Vernon, B.C and Maureen of Vienna, Austria; son Douglas (Tarina) of Saskatoon; stepsons John Falk and Wade (Sandra) Falk of Saskatoon; brother Walter; sister Mae (George) Littlemore, of Regina; grandsons, Reid and Cole Folk; Evan and Joshua Falk; granddaughters Sarah and Larissa MacNeill, and Chelsea MacNeill; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bernie was born March 25, 1930 in Regina where he was raised, except for a number years his family spent in Kelvington, SK. He worked for the Workers Compensation Board and Sask Labour for 35 years. He took an early retirement to follow a career as a workplace Safety Consultant. This latter career involved working with many Saskatchewan companies and a consulting contract in Siberia, Russia. Bernie had many interests. He was a member of the Regina Flying Club, Saskatchewan Safety Council, and past member of the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering. Many happy hours were spent at the village of Grandview Beach which included many years as an elected and appointed official, and later during his retirement years at Candle Lake, SK. His hobbies included flying, fishing, hunting and, as a handyman, he was involved in automobile repair, welding and carpentry. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you for the compassionate care given to Bernie by the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, the Palliative Care Unit, and Dr. Kerrie de Witt. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Cecilia R.C. Church, 5020 " 7th Avenue, Regina. Interment will be at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined.
