Obituary of Sister Marguerite Tucking
TUCKING, Sister Mary Marguerite
Sister Mary Marguerite (Rose) Tucking died peacefully at Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home on Friday, March 13, 2009. Sister was born October 10, 1905 in Underwood, North Dakota, eldest child of John and Magdalene (Penhiter) Tucking. Predeceased by her parents, her sisters, Lillian Rice, Mary Harper, Helen and Anne Tucking and her brothers Arnold, John and Gerard, Sister is survived by her sisters Cecilia Adams and Alice Tucking, nieces Lucene LaFrance (Wayne), Patricia Adams, Dona Miller (Stanley) and Alice-Elaine Miller, nephews Allan Rice (Marjorie) and Bernard Adams, grand niece and nephew Cyndi Miller-Patton (Jeff) and Daniel Rice and much-loved great-grand nephew Jeffery Patton. The Tucking family moved to Major, SK in about 1910 and lived the hard life of pioneers. Rose, being the eldest, learned and loved all the home-making skills, especially sewing, cooking and baking. She attended the Finley School for her elementary education and then went to Sacred Heart Academy in Regina where she began her high school education and met the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. In 1927 she joined the congregation and made her first vows in 1930. Having completed her education Sister Mary Marguerite, as she was henceforth called, taught for a few years but her health was not strong and she soon found her niche in making a home for her Sisters. At various times Sister lived at Sacred Heart Academy, Sacred Heart College and St. Marys Convent in Regina, in Lebret, Wolseley and Saskatoon, and in Sioux Lookout and Fort Frances in Ontario. She also passed two precious years in Calgary where she helped to care for her aging mother. In 1987 Sister retired? to St Gabriels Convent in Lebret where she lived until, in May, 1996, she came to nursing care at Santa Maria Home in Regina. For almost 13 years Sister has edified and entertained her caregivers by her interest and concern for them and her experience in how care should be given?! There, in 2005, along with the Province of Saskatchewan, Sister celebrated her 100th birthday and her 75th anniversary of vows! The Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions and the members of the Tucking family are most grateful to the staff at Santa Maria who have surrounded her with loving care. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the Santa Maria Chapel, 4215 Regina Avenue, Regina with Rev. Ken Koep presiding, Interment will take place following the funeral in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers friends may wish to send a donation to the Mission Fund of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, 310 Provencher Blvd., Winnipeg MB R2H 0G7.
