Obituary of John Huber

HUBER, John On Tuesday, March 24th, 2009, John Huber, late of Parkside Extendicare Regina, passed away at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his parents Johann and Appolonia; his brothers, Charlie, Isadore (Jim), Tony, George, and Matt; his sisters, Evelyn and Bea; his wife Helen. John is survived by his sister, Joan; children, Richard (Lori), Laurie Ulmer, Deidra Roberts (formerly Douglas), and Thomas, all of Regina; six grandchildren, Kris, Amy, Michael, Cassandra, Lauren, and Nathan. John was born on July 23rd, 1920, in Grayson, Saskatchewan, to Johann and Appolonia, who had immigrated to Canada from the Bukovina region of Austria-Hungary. The family moved to Regina, and John attended St. Augustine School. John used to deliver groceries by bicycle, before the streets were paved. John was used to hard work, and lived through hard times. He served overseas during WWll, and his service to his country remained as one of his most proudest accomplishments. After the War, he married Helen (nee Skerlton), and they began their family. John owned his own construction company, and was responsible, along with many others, for the building and development of the City of Regina. He continued his military involvement with the 14th Field Squadron of the Armed Forces in a reserve capacity, holding the rank of Sergeant. He enjoyed curling with the Regina Sergeants Garrison Mess. Remembering and honouring those who had served their country was of great importance to him. As well, John gave the gift of life, in the form of blood donation, having donated over 100 pints of blood. He always referred to donating blood as a simple way that he could help his fellow man. Thank you, John, for the years of service you have given to your country, your city, your family, and your fellow man. We salute you. The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Parkside Extendicare who attended to John these past six years. The family remains grateful for the love and compassion you showed, as well as the professional attitude to your work. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 27th, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Kathy Platt officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to Parkside Extendicare, South Wing, 4540 Rae Street, Regina S4S 3B4.
