Obituary of Toshiaki Izumi

IZUMI, TOSHIAKI IZUMI, TOSHIAKI MSc DVM PhD " after a brief illness, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, March 29, 2009 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Pasqua Hospital. He was born on March 21, 1923 in Meguro-Ku, Tokyo, Japan and is predeceased by his parents, Iwata and Yoshie. Toshiaki is survived by his brother Shuji and sister Kazuko (Obuchi). He is also survived by his wife of 58 years, Toyoko (nee Ishii) and his sons Jireau Brian? and Hiroaki Rocky? (Caroline) and grandchildren Yuriko (Larson) and Koichiro. Toshiaki was married in 1951 and came to Regina in 1965 after post-graduate studies in the United States. He was employed at the Provincial Laboratories " Department of Public Health as Chief Microbiologist until his retirement in May 1987. He spent his retirement traveling with his wife, gardening and writing a book on the early history of Japanese people living in Saskatchewan titled, Stories I Heard In The Wheatfield?. Toshiaki was also an avid photographer, fisherman, talented artist, woodworker and craftsman. A memorial service will be held at a later date yet to be announced after which his ashes will be returned to Japan to be interred at the IZUMI family gravesite.
