Obituary of Robert Arnot' McGregor

ROBERT ARNOT MCGREGOR Arnot was born on September 18, 1918 at Weyburn, SK and passed away in Regina on March 30, 2009. Predeceased by his parents, William A. and Ethel McGregor; brother Don; sister Irma; and son David Robert in 1987. Arnot is survived by his loving wife of sixty-three years, Lois; son Neil (Pam), and grandchildren, Christine (James), and Paul; daughter-in-law Chris, and grandchildren, Karen (and soon to arrive great-granddaughter), Scott, and Sheila; sister Jean Lockhart; as well as many nieces and nephews. Arnot entered the insurance business in 1937, having been recruited to the firm of L.E. Yingst Co. Ltd. by his sister Jean. Shortly afterward, he moved to Toronto, but was recruited back to L.E. Yingst in 1943. He continued in an active role in the business until well into his 80s. In recent years he was a frequent and welcome visitor to the office where he tended to the books of three different companies. He loved to work with numbers and to Balance the Books?. He often scoffed at the notion of using an adding machine, preferring to write them out on paper and add them up. He eagerly assumed leadership roles in the business and in the industry. He was a member of the Wascana Country Club and enjoyed his rounds on the course as well as fun and fellowship in the Club House. He joined the YMCA as a nine year old and the Y became his passion. He became a member of the Regina Board of Directors in 1943 and remained active on the board and was sought out for his wisdom and advice until very recently. He held leadership roles with the Y in Regina and nationally and was presented with YMCA Fellowship of Honor at a Presentation Ceremony at Government House in Ottawa. He and Lois enjoyed travel, with trips to Australia, the Orient, Britain, Europe, and spent many winters in Palm Springs, CA. He faced the challenges of his Cancer Experience? as he chose to call it, with brave and stoic courage, never once complaining. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Allan Blair Cancer Center, the nurses on 3B, and the kind, caring staff at Wascana Grace Hospice. A CELEBRATION OF ARNOTS LIFE WILL BE HELD AT 11:00 A.M. ON SATURDAY, APRIL 4, 2009 AT WESTMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 3025 " 13th AVENUE, REGINA WITH REV. KEN POWERS OFFICIATING. A private family interment will take place prior to the service. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the YMCA, 2400 13th Avenue, Regina SK, S4P 0W9, would be very much appreciated. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
