Kurt passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2009 at the Regina General Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Bernhard and Anna, his sisters, Ursula and Walli, and his childrens mother Lieselotte.
Kurt leaves to cherish his memory Anna, his loving wife of 34 years, his children Jutta (Lyle) Whitbread, Nancy (Dan) Andruchiw, Alice (Mitch) Doran; grandchildren: Angie (Marty) Friedrich, Michael (Melissa) Randall, Bradley (Jaclyn) Randall, Ryan (Tiffany) Johnson, Brett and Mark Johnson, Donna-Lee (Shahan) Fancy, Kelly (Bernice) Whitbread, Judy (Dale) Hanke, Leslie (Marty) DeDecker; great-grandchildren: James, Colby, Taylor and Avery, as well as the Loibersbek family and numerous relatives in B.C., Minnesota, Austria and Germany.
Kurt was born in Konigsberg, Germany on July 14, 1926 and immigrated to Canada in 1957. He was an ironworker " welder most of his working years with Local 771 in Regina. He was forced into early retirement due to his COPD. He managed it on a day-to-day basis and although there were some limitations, he tried not to let it hinder his life.
Kurt was involved and served as a director of the Saskatchewan German Council and the Austrian Canadian Edelweiss Club. He had also served as president of the Austrian Hunting and Fishing Club and was a founding member and teacher of the Austrian Edelweiss Dance Group. Kurt enjoyed hunting and fishing. His first love of sports was soccer but was also an avid fan of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and his Toronto Maple Leafs. Although he was unable to participate in sports with his grandchildren he was there when he could to support and cheer them on in all of their sporting endeavors.
Kurt was very proud to be a Canadian citizen but always maintained his German heritage and passed on to his children the customs and traditions of his homeland.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1909 Ottawa Street, Regina, SK. with Pastor Lindsay Hognestad officiating.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart And Stroke Foundation Of Saskatchewan or the Lung Association Of Saskatchewan.
