DONALD A. BROWN
1927 - 2009
Don Brown passed away peacefully at Parkside Nursing Home in Regina, SK, on May 3, 2009. Predeceased by his parents, Archie and Micky Brown, Don is survived by his family, Margaret, his wife for 58 years; Ross, Linda, Jill and Mike Brown of Regina; Ron, Heather, Roxanne, Alexandra and Margaux Brown of Redwood Meadows, AB; sisters Doris Sargent of Abbotsford, BC; Pat (Wayne) Stanyer of Sherwood Park, AB; and brother Ted (Evelyn) Brown of Vernon, BC; sister and brother-in-law Mona and Bud Dahlstrom of Regina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Regina, Don attended Lakeview School and Central Collegiate. After graduating from high school, Don worked in banking for a short time. Post-secondary education in insurance began a 44 year career in that industry. Initially, he joined his father in the family insurance business, A.T. Brown & Co. Ltd. and in 1965 joined in a partnership with L.E. Yingst & Co. Ltd. He retired in 1988 and considered the people he worked with to be among his greatest gifts. Don was a member of Lakeview United Church. He was a dedicated member of the King Hiram Masonic Lodge and the Wa Wa Shrine T-Bird Patrol. His passion for the family cottage at Katepwa is a wonderful legacy. Margaret, his children, grandchildren and numerous friends share many fond memories of happy times at the lake. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Village Adult Day Centre and the kind compassionate staff at Parkside Extendicare for their excellent care of Don. Don will be lovingly remembered and truly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina with Rev. David Eskdale officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkside Extendicare Nursing Home, 4540 Rae Street, Regina, SK, S4S 3B4; Wa Wa Shrine Patient Transportation Fund, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2E1; Regina Pioneer Village Adult Day Centre, 430 Pioneer Drive, Regina, SK, S4T 6L8.
