Obituary of Robert Peter Niedermayer
Robert Niedermayer, Sr. It is with great sadness that the family of Robert (Bob) Niedermayer, Sr. announces his passing on Monday, May 4, 2009. Predeceased by his wife and best friend Florence earlier this year on February 22, Bob will be forever remembered by their precious children, Robert (Jan), Teresa (Wayne), and Bradford (Joan), grandsons, Scott (Lisa), Rob (Jessica), and Ryan, granddaughters Christi (Eric) and Alex, great-grandsons, Logan, Jackson, Joshua, and Lucas and great-granddaughters, Bijou and Brooke. Also sharing in the sadness of Bob's passing, his brother, Jack (Nicky), his sister-in-law, Doris Bennett (Bill), and brothers-in-law, Ron Vandale (Betty), Marvin Vandale (Faye), and his extended family and dear friends and neighbours.
In his youth, Bob was an accomplished athletea rugged defenceman playing junior hockey with the Regina Abbotts, and later senior hockey in Fort QuAppelle. He was involved in numerous areas of minor hockey, including coaching the Fort QuAppelle juvenile team to a provincial championship. Bob learned to box at the YMCA and continued boxing in the Navy.
Bob and Flo married in 1945 while he was serving the country in the Royal Canadian Navy. Shortly after returning home, Bob and Flo moved their family to Fort QuAppelle and opened the Valley Caf, and for nearly 25 years raised their children in a unique and exciting lifestyle, forging lifelong friendships too numerous to count. The family returned to Regina in 1972. Bob had a remarkable passion for life, whether it was spending time with his family, his dogs, or on numerous hobbies that included hunting, fishing, model trains, raising show pigeons, tropical fish, gardeninghis breathtaking flower garden and Koi pond made family gatherings extra special every summer. The love story of Bob and Flo spanned over 65 years and blessed them with so many joyous and treasured times. To know them was to love them, and they were indeed well-loved. At Bob's request, his passing will be mourned privately, with flowers graciously declined.
