Obituary of Arthur Charles Benton Halvorsen

ARTHUR CHARLES BENTON HALVORSEN Art was born February 27, 1920 and passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital May 11, 2009. He was predeceased by his parents, Gus and Eva; brother, Teddy, twin brother, Albert; and sister Beth. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Violet and children David (Clare Stewart) of Okotoks, AB and Joan of Victoria, BC; as well as special nephews and nieces, Scott, Todd, Heather, Tracy, Robert and their families. Art was raised in Watrous, SK, served in World War II and then moved to Saskatoon where he married Violet in 1946 and shortly thereafter commenced a life long career with General Motors of Canada. He was transferred to Regina in 1970 and retired in 1980. Art was a dedicated member of the King Hiram Masonic Lodge, the Canadian Aviation Historical Society and Wesley United Church. He was also a long time member and volunteer with the Adult Social Dance Club. Other interests included curling, bridge, swimming, traveling, the Symphony, theatre, music and sports events. Art will be lovingly remembered and truly missed by his family and friends. Special thanks to Dr. Vermeulen. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale Street, Regina with Rev. John Haas officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 " 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon S7K 2H8 or a charity of choice.
