Obituary of Edward Arthur Bennett

Edward Arthur Bennett 1921 " 2007 Ed completed his lifes journey on Thursday, July 12, 2007 in Victoria, BC at age 86 years. Ed will forever be remembered as a very optimistic, social and successful entrepreneur and businessman. He was a founding member and past-president of the Real Estate Board in Regina and contributed to the creation of the Multiple Listing Services used today. He was active in many non-profit organizations including a role as President of the Cosmopolitan Club. In that role he was instrumental in developing the Big Bike? for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada that became an on-going fund raising program. He was also an avid curler in earlier years and always an avid golfer. Ed proudly served in WW11 testing heavy equipment for the army in Ontario and the US. Ed was born in Runnymede Saskatchewan to William and Ida (Blohm), spent part of his youth in the Gravelbourg area and moved to Regina in 1931. Always in search of that next opportunity Ed lived in Denver, Seattle, Calgary, Phoenix, Penticton, French Creek and Victoria. He accumulated long-standing friendships in each city he lived. He was a very special person, generous, with an open door policy providing support and advice to his family and friends. Ed continued to be active throughout his life and at the age of 83 took on the role as President of his condominium association. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 32 years, Kathleen Joan (Owen), in 1974, and his younger brother Harvey in 2004. Ed is survived by sons Bill (Muriel), Wayne (Cecile) and Dean in Victoria, daughters Linda (Alex Young) in Regina and Susan (Charles Lee) in Nanaimo, 8 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, his brother Albert and sisters Alice Goran and Vi Morrow. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family. Eds family will honour and celebrate his life at a memorial service in Regina where he will be placed next to Joan, mother to his five children. The service will be held Saturday, July 21st at 1:30 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel at 2136 College Avenue. Donations in lieu of flowers, in memory of Ed, to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 917A Albert Street, Regina, SK S4R 2P6, would be appreciated.
