Obituary of James Joseph Ash

ASH " On Friday, July 20, 2007 Jim Ash, comforted by his children, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by his parents, John and Mary; three brothers, Norm, Joe, Sam; two sisters, Ola, Arlette Dunn, Jim is survived by his loving wife Mavis; four sons, Barrie and Joanne, Don and Florence, Kent, Grant and Deb; grandchildren, Jenn, Jobina, Gina, Brad, Michael, Simon, Jane, Kristan, Aaron, Sarah, Katie, Geordan; thirteen great-grandchildren; five brothers, Wilf and Kay, Ralph, Walter and Ann, Al and Jocelyn, Bill and Lois; six sisters-in-law, Marg Ash, Norma Ash, Flora Livingston, Edie and Sonny Huntley, Adele Macdonald, Sandra Macdonald; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was raised in Qu'Appelle Saskatchewan and in 1945 married Mavis Macdonald. He was proud to have served overseas in World War II as a gunner. Upon his return, he commenced carpentry apprenticeship with Bird Construction. He quickly moved through the ranks ultimately resulting in the promotion to General Superintendent, remaining with the company for 37 years. Early retirement from Bird was brief, as Jim started a new career with the Regina Public School Board and fully retired in the summer of his 65 year. The family has many fond memories of time spent at the cottage at Katepwa Lake. In particular Jim found enjoyment in his grandchildren. He was a gracious, caring and dignified man who will be greatly missed by his family and many friends and coworkers. Thank you to the staff of 3D and the Palliative Care Unit at the Pasqua Hospital for expert and loving care. A special thanks to Erna Sherwood for her professional guidance and caring. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 26th at 11:00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers gratefully declined.
