Obituary of Frederick Clarence Dobie

DOBIE " Dr. Frederick (Ted) Clarence Dobie passed away on Monday, August 6, 2007 at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by his siblings, Dorothy Fraser, William Dobie and Russell Dobie; his parents; his first wife, Patricia J. Dobie (Alport); second wife, Lois Dobie (Ferguson); Ted is survived by his children, Dianne (Douglas) Smith of Dallas, Daphne (Philip) Walsh of Regina, Barbara (Bill Holbrow) Dobie of Calgary, Ted (Susan) Dobie of Victoria; brother, George (Helen) Dobie of Kelowna; sister-in-law, Daphne Lord of Winnipeg; grandchildren, David (Megan) Smith, Susan (Ray) Higgins, Mark (Jennifer) Smith, Michael (Tasha) Walsh, Ted Dobie III; seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ted was born in Port Arthur, ON on May 30, 1916. He graduated from Queens University, Medicine, in 1940. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1941 " 1945. He then moved to Regina and joined the medical practice of Dr. W. E. B. Alport as a General Practitioner. Following a year of Surgical Residency at Kingston General Hospital in 1952, he returned to Regina and continued family medicine before specializing in General Surgery, until his retirement in 1983. Ted was an active outdoorsman, golfer, hunter and curler. He was a member of Wascana Golf and Country Club and the Royal United Services Institute. Ted served as the Chief of Surgery and was on the Board of Governors at the Regina General Hospital. He also served on the Board of Directors of Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. Ted was a Charter Member of Lakeview United Church and served as an Elder and Pastoral Care Visitor. The family wishes to thank Dorothy Baumgartner, who was Teds former personal caregiver, and the staff at Helping Hands Personal Care Home for their recent care of Ted. Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue with Rev. Celia Ricker officiating. A private family interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memoriam, to a charity of choice.
