Obituary of Jessie Huggins

HUGGINS Jessie (nee Sloan) passed away peacefully on August 9, 2007at the age of 89 years. Jessie was born December 21, 1917 in Philadelphia, County Durham, England. She is predeceased by her parents Jane and Thomas; beloved husband of 45 years, Clarence; granddaughter Cheryl; brothers Tom and Jack; brothers-in-law Tommy and George; and sisters-in-law Rose and Hilda. Jessie is survived by her children Pat (Dale) Petersen of Weyburn; June (Henry) Jeffs of Prince Albert; Jack (Carmen) of Sudbury; Kathy (Garry) Whitley of Prince Albert; and Elizabeth (Steve) Shaw of Regina; her grandchildren Greg (Gwen), Amber, Davin, Glen (Addie), Karen (Wayne), Will, Dan, and Julie; great-grandchildren Reese, Gage, Jesse, Gary, Warren, Cheryl, and Bobby; great-great- grandchild Alliyah; as well as her sisters Anna and Edith and their families in England. While growing up in England Jessie worked as a nurses aid including work at the Royal London Hospital during WWII. In London, Jessie met Clarence, a Saskatoon Light Infantry soldier, and they were married in London on June 7, 1943. As an English war bride, Jessie immigrated to Prince Albert in 1946 where she spent 20 loving years teaching the mentally and physically disabled at the Prince Albert Kinsmen Community Workshop. Jessie also spent many years volunteering with the Anglican Church, Overseas Wives and Canadian Legion. The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home for the kind care given to Jessie of recent years and the staff of the Pioneer Village Adult Day Centre. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Greys Funeral Home in Prince Albert with Rev. Guy Bellerby officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Newbottle Church in England.
