Obituary of Karoline Markel

MARKEL " Karoline Markel (nee Decker), passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 16, 2007 into the arms of her Saviour, Jesus Christ, at the age 91 years. She was predeceased by her twin sister at birth, her husband Andrew in 1988, grandson Eric Wilk, great-grandsons Jason Hoffman and Tyson Markel, her parents Fred and Mary Decker, brothers Walter, Fred and Charles, and sisters Mary Schmidt and Anna Schmidt. She is survived by her son Norman (Judy), daughters Irene (Henry) Schultz, Irma and Shiralee Markel, twelve grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren, also in-laws Millie Decker, Elizabeth Markel, Wilma Markel, Margaret Markel, Beatrice Markel, Emma Markel, and numerous nieces and nephews. Karoline was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba January 19, 1916, and was raised on a farm at Semans, SK. She married Andrew Markel in 1934 at Markinch, SK. and they farmed in the Last Mountain District and Duval, SK. before moving to Regina in 1953. Karoline was employed at the General Hospital for four years and the YMCA for thirty-two years before retiring in 1991. She was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher at Redeemer Lutheran Church. After transferring to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, she was co-ordinator of worship service readers. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and caregivers at Pioneer Village for the excellent care and compassion shown to our mother. A special thank you to Dr. Bouwer for her devoted attention to our mothers health. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 19, 2007 from 7:00 " 8:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. in Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 935 McCarthy Boulevard, with Pastor D. Solie officiating. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be given to Prince of Peace Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
