Obituary of John Sommerville Davie

DAVIE " On Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007, John (Jake) Sommerville Davie, late of Regina, passed away peacefully in his home, one week shy of his 85th birthday. Predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth Davie and step-daughter Arley Lowe, brother Jim Davie and parents John and Mini Davie. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Ida Lowe-Davie; his son Ray (Marnie) Davie; daughters Jackie (Ted) Reilly, Diane Haro, and Donna Empringham; step-son Tom (Karen) Lowe and step-daughter Laurey (Ron) Milligan; grandchildren Jolene (Trent) Korchinski, Jamie Reilly, Ricky Haro, Diana Haro, Sheena Empringham, Jody Beth Empringham, Jen (Jeff) Wood, Judy (Joey) Shaw, Jayne (Jamie) Leibel, Jaclyn Cormier, David (Jennifer) Lowe; and great-grandchildren Jesse, Carson, Luke, Melissa, Jayden, Hunter, Layne, and Brandon and many furry friends. John served Canada proudly in WWII. Upon his return home, he enlisted as a Firefighter with the Regina Fire Department. He retired from the fire department as a Battalion Chief in 1982 with more than 33 years of service. After his retirement he maintained a close connection to his brothers on the job and attended many fire department functions and events. He even coached the firefighters hockey team long into post hockey playing years. His retirement years were filled with many travel adventures, carpentry projects and family activities. He was the voice behind our happy birthday songs, the smiling face in the hot tub, and the laughter behind every joke. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 4825 Dewdney Avenue.
