Obituary of Vera Elizabeth Filazek

FILAZEK " Vera Elizabeth Filazek (ne Machmer) passed away at the Regina Lutheran Home on October 6, 2007 at the age of 95 years. She was born in Farmingdale, Long Island, New York on May 30, 1912. She migrated to Canada with her family in 1914 settling in the Spring Valley district where she grew up on the family farm and attended Tranquillity School. In 1931 she married Ewald Filazek of Spring Valley. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years; her parents, Peter and Katherine Machmer; two sisters; four brothers; two nephews; two nieces; and son-in-law, Rev. Ronald Raedeke. She is survived by her daughter, Irene Raedeke and son Erwin (Violet); seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlework, cooking, baking, church work and traveling which included, England, Scandinavia, Germany, U.S.A., Bahamas, Hawaii and New Zealand. Elizabeth and Ewald will be remembered for their gift of hospitality, generosity and faith in God. A celebration of Elizabeths life will be held on Saturday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 935 McCarthy Blvd. N. with Pastor Daryl Solie officiating. A private family interment will be held at Peace Lutheran Cemetery at Spring Valley. Memorial donations to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 935 McCarthy Blvd. N., Regina S4X 3L2 or Regina Lutheran Home, 1925 " 5th Avenue North, Regina S4R 7W1 would be much appreciated.
