Obituary of Laura Isabelle Wright
WRIGHT: Laura Isabelle (nee Robertson) passed away peacefully on October 14, 2007 at the age of 89 in the Golden Prairie Home in Indian Head. Laura was born in Indian Head on September 15, 1918, the youngest of four daughters born to Dougall and Rose Robertson. She received her education in Indian Head and then attended Normal School in 1937-38. Like many young teachers of the day, Laura taught in small one-room schools in and around the Indian Head, Wolseley, and Balcarres areas. During her tenure in Balcarres she boarded at the Wright home. It was here that she met and fell in love with William Russell Wright and they were married on July 24, 1943. Russell joined the army in Calgary and was shipped overseas in November 1943. Laura returned to the family home until Russell returned in 1945. They moved back to Regina and Laura worked for a while for the government in Human Resources. In 1949 they built a home on Robinson Street and continued to live there until Russell passed away in 2000.
Laura and Russell were avid travelers and enjoyed trips to the Orient, Australia and New Zealand, Scandinavia, Europe, Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises, as well as several trips to their favourite island - Hawaii. Laura was a member of the Naomi Rebekah Lodge in Regina. She took an avid interest in TV sports and enjoyed watching curling, figure skating, the World Series and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
In 2002 Laura sold her home and moved to Hayes Haven in Indian Head. She lived there for several years until failing health required a move to the Golden Prairie Nursing home.
Laura was predeceased by her husband, Russell (2000); sisters Elva Mitchell (1963), Ethel Devine (1998); Audrey Shelford (2004) and two brothers in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing, niece Pat (Doug) Steele, and their daughters Angela (James) Avey and Heather Steele; two sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews-in-law; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; and special friends.
