Obituary of Otto Sigfried Seida

SEIDA - Otto Zigfried Seida of Regina, died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 93 on October 21st, 2007. Dad was born to Katerina (Huget) and Wenzel Seida in Czernowitz, the capital city of Bokavina in Austria on March 3rd, 1914. Otto worked for an importer/exporter as one of his first jobs in Austria and the love of buying and selling goods became an integral part of his life even into retirement. He married Leokadia (Katie) Timoficiuc on February 6th, 1937, and they began to raise their family. A few years later the unrest in Europe uprooted the family moving them from one camp to another. At one point, Mom and the first five of the children were separated from Dad who was working in Peliz, Germany. He didnt know where they had been taken. Mom finally got word to him that they had been sent to a camp in Denmark so he walked the 500km to be reunited with them. As the war years went on, one child was born in Denmark and another died. In 1948 our family came to Canada where it was enriched with two more children. Assiniboia was the first destination where Dad worked in his brothers coal mine. Four years later we moved to Regina. Dad worked for the City of Regina Parks Department planting trees and flowers in summer and looking after an outdoor hockey rink in winter until his retirement in 1975. He loved gardening and the family home on Fleury Street was surrounded with a brilliant carpet of flowers for 37 years. When Mom and Dad moved to their 14th floor apartment Dads balcony was his garden. Dad and Mom spent their last two years at the Regina Lutheran Home. They were married 70 years. Dad was predeceased by his parents; his three brothers, Jacob, Wenzel and Rudy; his wife Katie and two sons, Mircea (Mickey) Ceahorianu and Horst Seida and granddaughter, Danielle Dawn Appel. He is survived by his sister, Elsa Beer; his children: Arnold (Isobel) Seida, Alma (Victor) Neiser, Otto (Evelyn) Seida, Lucy (Philip) Grob, Hilda (Ron) Gamble and Ingrid (Mervin) Appel, daughter-in-law Eva Ceahorianu. He is also survived by twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren; his nephew Chtephan (Dominic) Pitei whom Dad helped immigrate to Canada as well as many nieces and nephews. We wish to thank the staff of the Regina Lutheran Home for the tender care they gave to Dad. Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, October 25th, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet St. followed by a reception in the church hall. Interment will follow reception at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance, may be made to the Regina Lutheran Home, 1925 " 5th Ave. N.
