Obituary of Dorothy Marie Sampson

SAMPSON " Dorothy Marie (nee Howse) October 6, 1926 " November 1, 2007 Dorothy was born in Carragana, Saskatchewan. She was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Howse. Dorothy graduated from the Victoria Hospital of Nursing in 1949 and was active in the nursing profession for eighteen years. Dorothy married Sam Sampson in 1953 and resided in Prince Albert for most of their married lives. They raised three children there. Dorothy was a past member of the Board of Directors of the Food Bank and a frequent volunteer there for four years. She was coordinator of the Junior Volunteers at the Victoria Hospital from 1981 to 1985. She was a former member of the Y.W.C.A. Board of Directors for several years and a volunteer at the Y.W.C.A. Thrift Shop for thirty-two years. Presented with a life membership in 1988. Dorohy was presented with the Woman of Distinction Award for her many years of volunteering in Prince Albert in 1992. She managed the Care and Share food hamper program for Calvary United Church for eleven years. Preparing numerous hampers for families in need. A faithful member of the U.C.L.W. of the church for many years. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Sam in September 2000; her parents; an infant son Grant in 1955; brother James Howse in 1974 and sister Christine Baich in 2002. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Brenda Laing and husband Bill of St. Albert, AB. Their three children, Erin Laing of Regina, Sarah Laing (Joshua) of Edmonton and Kelsie Laing of Edmonton; daughter Janice Nebergall and husband Ron of Melville. Their four children, Greg (Courtney) and great granddaughter Ayla of Okotoks, Alberta, Caren Niebergall (Lee) of Regina, Lindsey Neibergall of Regina and Jenna Niebergall of Saskatoon; son John Sampson and wife Heidi and Gabriel of Roberts Creek, BC; sister Helen (Tom) James of Cardiff, ON; brother Bill (Eleanor) Howse of Carragana. The last two years Dorothy had many struggles with her health. She moved to Regina in March 2006 to be closer to family. She was cared for the last several months at the Parkside Extendicare in Regina. Flowers most gratefully declined.
