Obituary of Paul Stanley Dojack

1914 " 2007 Lifes work well done Thou good and faithful servant Matthew: 25:21 DOJACK, Paul Stanley ~ We celebrate the long life of a man who inspired all who knew him by his zest for life, concern and support for others, wise counsel and keen interest in the endeavors of family and friends. Paul Stanley Dojack, late of 3638 Wedgewood Way, Regina, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Tuesday November 6, 2007 at the age of 93 years. Born in Winnipeg on April 24, 1914, the youngest of 8 children, his family moved to Regina in 1924 and opened the National Music Supply Co. Ltd. on Hamilton Street. Paul has been recognized for the many contributions he made over his lifetime, however, his lifes work and greatest accomplishments have been helping troubled youth of Saskatchewan. In 1938, Paul joined the staff of the Saskatchewan Boys Centre (the Boys School) as Recreation Leader and rose through the ranks, retiring as Director in 1975. He believed that recreation, sports and involvement were the critical elements in building the confidence of youth in order to focus them on positive opportunities in life. His success at the Boys School is best measured by the hundreds of boys who passed through the School and went on to become successful, contributing members of society. Many of these boys remain in contact by phone call, mail and personal visits. In 1985, the School was renamed the Paul Dojack Youth Centre in recognition of Pauls substantial contribution to Saskatchewan youth and many years of dedicated service to his community. Paul joined the (Royal) Regina Rifle Regiment in 1941 and served until 1946 when he returned to the Boys School. Sports and athletics were always an integral part of Pauls life. In 1929, he organized his friends who frequented the Dales Tea Room into various sports and formed the Regina Dales football club, later renamed the Regina Rams. In 1938, at age 24, Paul coached the Dales to the Dominion Football Championships in Montreal becoming the youngest coach ever to win the Dominion title. His involvement with sport went on to include 29 years as a referee with the Canadian Football League, refereeing 546 games, including 14 Grey Cup Games. For his contributions to sport in Canada, Paul was inducted into Canadas Sports Hall of Fame (1995), Canadian Football Hall of Fame (1978), Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (1971) and the Regina Sports Hall of Fame (2004). Other honors and awards include the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal (2005) for Significant contributions to the people of Saskatchewan?, the Governor Generals 125 Year Medal (2002) and the national Sports Medal and Centennial Medal (1967) for contribution to the Nation in youth work. Pauls community involvement included election to the Regina Public School Board, memberships in the Masonic Lodges and the WaWa Shrine, the Wascana Kiwanis Club, the Canadian Legion and Board Memberships of the Saskatchewan Chapter of the John Howard Society, The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame and Canadas Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Pauls life was full and his contributions many over his 93 years. He enjoyed robust health up until 2004 after which he was cared for lovingly at home by Ellen. Paul is predeceased by his parents, Joseph Dojack (1930) and Beatrice Dojack (1937), brothers George (Edith), Daniel (Kathleen) and Joseph (Edna); sisters Hilda Dojack, Aleta (Harold) Addems, Marjorie (Hugh) Fraser and Marian (Everett) Shaw and niece, Judy (Douglas) Ferguson.
