Obituary of Mary Glenndoris Bernice Haggman

HAGGMAN, Glenndoris - On November 11, 2007 Mary Glenndoris Bernice Haggman passed away at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina. She was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on November 18, 1916 and moved to Saskatchewan with her family as a young child and grew up on a farm near Bracken. She attended Normal School in Moose Jaw in 1941 to become a teacher. She taught in one-room school houses near Orkney, Loomis, and Flintoft. She married Eric Haggman in 1944 and they farmed near Flintoft and Palmer until they moved to Regina in 1981. She had a lifelong interest in learning and was an avid reader her whole life. She tried her hand at writing by participating in The Living History Project sponsored by the Regina Public Library and New Horizons, directed by Dr. John Archer. The resulting autobiography was published in 1984 in a collection with four other Saskatchewan family histories. She was an avid gardener but found time to travel to visit her children, attend investor conferences and take Caribbean cruises. Although Eric passed away soon after moving to Regina, Glenndoris continued to live in her own home until she died, one week short of her 91st birthday. She was predeceased by her father Adolph Piehl in 1963, her mother Edythe Piehl in 1974, her husband Eric in 1982 and her brother-in-law Ysbrand Vancer Linden in 2003. She is survived by her children Karen (Andr) of Regina, Kurt (Debbie) of Renton WA, Brian (Deb) of Waterloo ON, Bernice of Regina; six grandchildren Michel (Kate), Carl, Eric, Mark, Angela and Lindsay; her sister Ethel Vander Linden, brother and sister-in-law Loring and Edna Piehl; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the hospital staff on 4C for their compassionate care during her last days. A Remembrance Ceremony will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. A private interment will be held at the Geneva Cemetery in Palmer, Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Glenndoris may be made to the Regina Humane Society, PO Box 3143, Regina SK S4P 3G7.
