Obituary of Donald Maurice Metz

Metz - On Friday, November 16, 2007 Donald Maurice Metz, late of Regina and Wilcox, passed away at the age of 91 years. Predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Margaret Metz, brothers Robert and Nicholas, and sisters Margaret and Agnes. Don is survived by Teresa, his wife of 64 happy and interesting years; his daughter Karen (John) Stark of Regina, and grandsons Daniel and Thomas. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Ann Boll of Eugene, Oregon; brothers-in-law Carl and John Weisshaar and John Rochert; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Don will be remembered also by many long time friends. Born on January 10, 1916 on the family farm at Wilcox, Saskatchewan, Don went to school at Notre Dame College and later at St. Michael's College in Toronto. Don was an avid sportsman participating in a wide variety of sports and was part of the Toronto Maple Leafs Hockey Club during the glory years of the 1940's. Don served his country in the Canadian Forces from 1942 to 1945. After his hockey career was over Don continued working on the family farm until 1989. After retirement he enjoyed golfing and socializing with friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne's R.C. Church, 1701 Cowan Crescent, Regina with Father Thomas Nguyen presiding. Private family interment to follow at a future date.
