Obituary of Charles Luman Armitage

ARMITAGE, CHARLES L. (CHUCK)_ The family of Charles Armitage of Regina regretfully announce his passing on Sunday, November 18, 2007. Chuck was born in Saskatoon in 1925. Predeceased by his parents Charles (1947) and Mamie (Sutherland) Armitage (1992), his wife Terri (1997) & brother Russell (1980), he is survived by his brother Lyell (Donelly) Armitage of Regina, nephews Paul, Perry, Lindsay, and Sheldon Armitage, & nieces Nancy Armitage (Allan Arndt), Janice Fitzpatrick, brother-in-law Alex Ryback, nephew Don Ryback, niece Linda Shaw, cousin Jim (Gwen) Rogers and their families. For over 39 years Chuck was an employee of SaskTel starting with them in Saskatoon as a lineman in 1944. Over the years he was promoted to managerial positions in Moose Jaw and Regina. He took early retirement in 1983. Chuck & Terri were married in 1956 enjoying many months vacationing at their cabin on the Churchill River in northern Manitoba and travelling. He was a long time member, over 50 years, of the Elks Club. Chuck was involved in coaching & managing mens & ladies fastball & basketball teams in his early years in Regina. He took great pleasure in projecting a serious, stern attitude and demeanor but in reality was a kind, generous and caring person. Many families and close friends were assisted by him in a quiet and unassuming way over the years. Following the death of his father in 1947, Chuck became his younger brother's guardian and mentor moving the family from Saskatoon to Regina. Chuck enjoyed for many years his regular afternoon visits with his friends and buddies at the Italian Club. Right up to the end, he maintained a positive attitude and tried to the best of his ability to keep going. When asked how he was doing Chuck had a standard response of not worth a damn, but thanks for asking. At Chuck's request no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck's name to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan.
