Obituary of Shirley Cavell Sturby

STURBY, SHIRLEY CAVELL - On Sunday, December 30, 2007, Shirley Sturby of Regina, died at the age of 91 years. Funeral service will be celebrated at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Predeceased by her loving husband Bill, parents Fred and Eileen Hicks, sister Vesta (Rusty) Buchan, and brother Fred Hicks, she is survived by her daughter Bonnie Garrington, Austin, TX, grandchildren: Paul (Suzanne) Grudnitski, Torrance, CA, and Cara (Paul) Lankford, Orinda, CA, and great grandchildren: Kyle and Ryan Grudnitski, and Emma and Katherine Lankford. Shirley was born on a farm in Viceroy, SK in 1916, and at the age of 18 went to study and work in Regina, where she would live the remainder of her life. She married her husband Bill before WW II, and their daughter Bonnie was born while Bill was in Europe with the Regina Rifle Regiment. After the war, Shirley was an active worker, mother, sister, and homemaker. Shirley loved to work with her friends at IODE, and later, with the Lion's Club, and Lakeview United Church. She also developed a love for golf, curling, sewing and gardening. Her loving spirit, and depression-era determination are ingrained in all of her family members, and she will be forever remembered and missed by her family. Flowers most gratefully declined.
