Obituary of Yuet-Kwai Sin

YUET-KWAI SIN February 22, 1924 September 3, 2012 Yuet-Kwai Sin was born in the province of Kwangtung in China in 1924. She married Chun Chor Lee in 1943 and they had one daughter. Yuet-Kwai became a widow when her daughter was only one year old. The two of them moved to live in Hong Kong with relatives. Yuet-Kwai found a role in the large household by helping out with meal preparation and other household chores and had a hand in raising seven other children living in the house. Yuet-Kwai was a very capable woman and had a very strong work ethic. She was dearly loved and appreciated by her family for all the things she did to help out in the home. In 1968, when her first grandchild was three months old, Yuet-Kwai immigrated to Canada and lived in Halifax, NS with her daughter Florence and son-in-law, Benjamin. She became an integral part of the family and was adored by her three grandchildren, Eudora, Alvin and Clement. In 1974, she moved with the family to live in Regina, Saskatchewan. Being very family oriented, Yuet-Kwai was the happiest and most content doing things in the home. She prepared meals for the family, did household chores and helped raise her grandchildren. She perfected Chinese recipes like roast duck, green turnip cake (law bak goh) and glutinous rice pudding cakes (neen goh) which she often made in bulk to share with her friends at church. During the winter, Yuet-Kwais pastime was to knit and relax in her favourite rocking chair and watch television. She especially enjoyed watching The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, and nature and cooking shows. In the summer, Yuet-Kwai stayed active by tending her vegetable garden in the backyard which would yield such an abundant crop that she would have an ample supply of vegetables for the family to eat for months on end with extra to pass around for friends to enjoy. Yuet-Kwai was a very caring person and many people over the years have been touched by her compassion. Yuet-Kwai was sacrificial with her time and energy and found purpose and joy in helping others. She was fond of her nine great grandchildren and enjoyed making their favourite foods for them to eat. For 16 years, she became a pillar of strength for her daughter when her son-in-law, Benjamin was battling cancer. Yuet-Kwai was a woman of faith and she lived with a positive disposition and knew that her life was in Gods hands. She would often say that as long as God gives her the strength and ability to do something, she would continue doing it for as long as He would allow. Yuet-Kwai loved life but she already had one foot planted in her eternal home as she would often speak with wonder about the day when she would get to see Jesus face to face. On August 23, 2012, at the age of 88, Yuet-Kwai was in the backyard tending her vegetable garden when she suffered a stroke. She spent the next ten days in the hospital and put on a valiant effort to overcome her many physical challenges. On the evening of September 2, 2012, she told her daughter that she longed to be with Jesus because she was certain that it was the best place for her to be. Early the very next morning, with her daughter by her side, Yuet-Kwai peacefully went to be with the Lord. Yuet-Kwai Sin was predeceased by her husband, Chun Chor Lee; sister, Sin Hong and son-in-law, Dr. Benjamin Der. Yuet-Kwai is survived by her daughter Florence Der; three grandchildren, Eudora (Ted) Ng; Alvin (Clara) Der; Clement (Juliana) Der; and nine great-grandchildren; Evan, Gregory, Jenalyn, Emma, Myka, Eli, Eden, Charlotte, Carys; sister Sin Hing; brother Sin Wing Chun and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
