Obituary of Alton (Al) William Randall

RANDALL, Alton (Al) William - Al passed away peacefully at Elmview Extendicare on Jan 11, 2008. He was predeceased by his loving wife Helen on Feb 16, 2007 and his parents Vera and Reid. Al was born in Pense SK. on Dec 26, 1919. He moved as a young lad to Regina and attended Innismore elementary school and Balfour Collegiate. Al started his working career with R.H. Williams Dept Store in 1936. The Second World War interrupted his career where he served with the Regina Rifles Signal Corp in Europe from 1942 through 1945. He returned to Canada where he married his fiance Helen (LaPlante) in Montreal. From there they returned to Regina to begin their life together. Al continued his career at Simpsons Dept Store for the next 34 years as the manager of various departments including house wares, toys and sporting goods. Al was a loving husband and father and greatly cherished his seventeen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren. Al was a lifetime member of the Victoria Club where he participated in the bowling league for many years. As a young man he enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping and other outdoor activities. Gardening was his life time passion and he was well known for his green thumb. Al retired in 1980 and he and Helen moved to live at Regina Beach, SK. They enjoyed many years as Snowbirds traveling to Yuma, Arizona where they had a winter residence. Al enjoyed Sunday get togethers, playing cards and family barbecues. Left to cherish his memories are his children Robert (Ginny), Marilyn (Ray Opitz), Val (Dan Fedorowich), Eileen (Lloyd Winters), Ed (Maggie), Bill (Susan), Lynn (Terry Hart) and Vicky. Al is also survived by his sister Helene Eberts, brother Len (Vi), brothers in law Edward LaPlante (Lorraine), Fred Rowe and sister in law Rita LaPlante. Visitation for family and friends, Tuesday Jan 15, 2008, 7 to 8 PM at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday Jan 17, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Martin de Porres R.C. Church, 4720 Castle Rd. Regina SK. with Rev. Msgr. Ken Miller Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan or to a charity of ones choice. An online book of condolences can be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
