Obituary of Alexander Kenneth Kelly

KELLY - Alexander Kenneth Kelly, born June 28th, 1940, Regina, Sask., died January 13th, 2008. Alex was predeceased by his father Alex, his mother Winnifred and his sister Moira. Alex is survived by his loving wife Chris (nee Norris); daughter Bridget (Ryan) of Fairfield, Australia; brother Graham (Lorena) of Medicine Hat, Alberta; nephews David (Janice)and their daughter Kaitlin, Redcliff, Alberta and Robert (Stacy) and their children Kassidy and Russell, Airdrie Alberta; and his Aunts Margaret, Edmonton, Alberta, Dorothy, Fort QuAppelle, Sask., Mary, Coventry, U.K. and Jean, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Alex attended Herchmer Public School and Scott Collegiate in Regina. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. He was the first graduate to earn a PHD in Economics at the University of Western Ontario. An avid jazz musician, art collector and car buff, Alex lived a rich and fulfilling life. Alex was often interviewed by local and national media for his opinions on economic issues. He will be fondly remembered by the numerous students he has taught in his many years as an Economics Professor and by his colleagues at the University of Regina. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dr. Alex K. Kelly Jazz Scholarship or the Dr. Alex K. Kelly Memorial Scholarship in Economics at the University of Regina, c/o External Relations, 3737 Wascana Parkway, Regina, SK S4S 0A2.
