Obituary of Helen Forbes

FORBES, Helen Atholl Murray On Sunday, February 3rd, 2008, Atholl passed away in Regina surrounded by loving friends. Born in Regina on July 18th, 1925, she was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Helen Forbes, and by her brother, G. Murray Forbes. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Edna Forbes, of Regina, and her cousin, James MacBrayne of North Berwick, Scotland. Atholl attended Lakeview School and Central Collegiate in Regina, and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1946. She had a long career as a dietitian in Regina, retiring in 1986 as Director of Dietary Services at the Regina General Hospital. She was very actively involved with numerous organizations including the Saskatchewan Dietetic Association, serving as president, the Regina University Womens Club, serving as president, the YWCA, the James Henderson Chapter, I.O.D.E and the Mackenzie Art Gallery. She was also a long-time and active member of Knox-Metropolitan United Church. Atholl had a lively interest in all of the arts, and regularly enjoyed performances of the Regina Symphony Orchestra, the Regina Musical Club, the Globe Theatre and many other local and visiting groups. She was an enthusiastic world traveller and was sought after by friends and family as a curious, well informed, unflappable and always fun-to-be-with travelling companion. She cared deeply for her family and for her large circle of friends, and expressed that love through a warm, enthusiastic interest in everyones lives and through patient, practical help for those in need. Atholl contributed quietly but in so many different ways to the fabric of life in Regina. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her Regina family?, and by close friends of all ages across Canada. Many thanks to the caring staff in ICU and Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital. A service to celebrate Atholls life will be held on Monday, February 11th at 1.00 p.m. at Knox-Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina. Flowers gratefully declined.
