Obituary of Vern William Player

PLAYER - William Vern passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Vern was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, on July 10, 1920. Vern was predeceased by wife Zlie (Baker), brothers Charles, Fred, Stanley, Harry and sisters Elsie, Alice and Thelma. Vern is survived by sisters Marj and Betty, and is lovingly remembered by fiance Chris, daughter Darci (John), Vancouver, and grandsons Alfred, Harold and Peder, son Todd, and many close relatives from the Player and Baker families. Vern spent many years working for the CPR and retired as General Claims Agent, in Regina in August of 1980. Vern also spent 5 years as Corporal in Charge of Air Frame Ground Crew, with the Royal Canadian Airforce Test Pilot Unit. During World War II he served with the 6th Bomber Group, Yorkshire Unit in England. Vern was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed curling, golf, the horse races and visiting with friends. He also enjoyed travelling and helping others. Vern and the family would especially like to thank Dr. Busse, Dr. Moore and Dr. Zimmerman. Due to their efforts, Vern enjoyed many additional happy years with his family and friends. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, February 28, 2008 from 7:00 " 8:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 29 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, Regina, with The Rev. Dr. Trish McCarthy officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery. Flowers most gratefully declined.
