Obituary of Theresia Fix

FIX " Theresia passed away on April 6, 2008, at the age of 81, surrounded by her family. Theresia was the youngest of six children born to Michael and Krezentia Paulus in the village of Schonbrunn in the Province of Bavaria, Germany on January 11, 1927. Theresias mother died when she was 11 years old. She was subsequently raised by her father and three older sisters. After finishing school Theresia, whose German nickname throughout her life was Resi (Raise-ee), worked for the local barons family as an upstairs maid. It was as a result of working there that she acquired her life-long fondness for setting a beautiful dinner table with her silverware and crystal. Later, Theresia met and married Viktor Fix a German refugee from Russia. They had two sons, Karl and Wolfgang Michael. Seeking a better life for their family, in 1958 Viktor and Theresia immigrated to Canada with their two youngsters aged seven and one. Neither knew a word of English, they had very little money and, due to the war, neither had a formal profession or trade. Because they both worked hard however, they lived very comfortably and were able to provide their sons with a wonderful quality of life. Theresia and Viktor loved to dance and did it frequently with family and friends at the German Club and the Trianon Ballroom. Theresia loved music and singing in particular. She sang with the German Choir for over 25 years and with the Little Flower Church Choir for over 10 years. Theresia was an outstanding homemaker. Her cooking and baking was second to none and her home was always impeccably clean. She loved ironing; consequently her husband and sons were never seen without perfectly pressed shirts and pants. She took great pride in her own appearance as well, always looking like a million bucks (as her family would proudly tell her). Viktor died unexpectedly in 1980. Thereafter, Theresia remained in the family home for another 19 years, continuing to travel extensively until she was diagnosed with Alzheimers disease in 1997. She resided in Santa Maria for the past 7 years. Theresia was predeceased by her husband, Viktor (1980); mother, Krezentia (1938); father, Michael (1955); brothers and sisters, Franz, Michael, Maria, Walburga and Zenta. Theresia is survived by sons, Karl (Sandra Beug), Wolfgang Michael (Lynn); 6 grandchildren, Karl Adam, Ryan, Victoria, Jennifer, Elizabeth (Jeff Vall) and Kathryn. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 10:30 a.m., at Santa Maria Nursing Home Chapel, 4215 Regina Avenue, Regina, with Rev. Ken Koep presiding. Private family interment at Riverside Memorial Park. Theresias family would like to thank the 4th floor staff and the dietary/kitchen staff at the Santa Maria Nursing Home for the wonderful care they provided Theresia. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc., #301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, S4P 3X1, or to the Santa Maria Nursing Home, 4215 Regina Avenue, Regina, S4S 0J5.
