Obituary of Lena Josepha Warick

WARICK, Lena (Matieshin) In her 86th year, Lena passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 8, 2008. She was born September 13, 1921 on the family farm near Dana, SK where she attended school. She worked in Saskatoon at the then Hotel Bessborough before her marriage on April 15, 1944 to Felix Michael Warick. Together they celebrated 56 years of marriage and were devoted to their four children. Lena was active in the Catholic Womens League and Saskatchewan School for the Deaf home and school association. She was an accomplished painter and a keen sportswoman, particularly in golfing, curling and bowling. Lena was predeceased by her husband Felix (Phil ) and daughter, Gloria Relkey in 2001, previously by her parents Anton and Jessie Matieshin. She is also predeceased by son-in-law Garry Culhane and brothers-in-law Joe Warick and Michael Wawryk, Tony Galgan and Mike Chilliak, and sisters-in-law Helen Hrynewich, Marie Warick and Rosie Wawryk. She is survived by her son Dennis Warick of Edmonton, daughters Ruth Culhane Warick of Vancouver and Beverly (Blaine) Coueslan of Regina and son-in-law Al Relkey of Regina; five grandchildren, Cachet Warick and Danica (Wassim) Awada of Edmonton, Jennifer Coueslan and Krystal Coueslan of Regina, and Jason Coueslan of Edmonton; four great-grandchildren, Zainab, Mohammad, Ali and Zahra Awada of Edmonton. Also surviving are a brother, Victor Matieshin of Dana, and sisters Emily (John) Sielski of Saskatoon and Sylvia (John) Bannerman of Saskatoon. She is also survived by brother-in-law John (Elfrieda) Warick of Saskatoon and sisters-in-law Mickey Chilliak of Saskatoon, Pauline Galgan of Cudworth and Emily Warick of Vanderhoof, and countless nephews and nieces. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home, 4215 Regina Avenue, Regina with Rev. Ken Koep presiding. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
