Obituary of E. Ruth Wilkins

E. RUTH WILKINS (nee Bewell) Wife, sister, friend, scholar, traveler and woman of faith, Ruth Wilkins passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2013 at the Pasqua Hospital. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Harold Wilkins; her parents, Nellie and Charles Bewell; and her brother Budd Bewell. Ruth is survived by her brother Donald Bewell (Diane); sister-in-law Betty-Lou Munro; stepchildren Jim Wilkins (Shirley), Dianne Krake (Skip), and Lynn Adams (Bob); as well as several nieces, nephews and step grandchildren. She was born in Rabbit Lake SK, the daughter of a United Church minister. Ruth went to school in Theodore and Balcarres as well as Gladstone Manitoba. A graduate of the University of Manitoba in Home Economics, she went on to obtain a Bachelor of Religious Education from Emmanuel College in Toronto and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of British Colombia. Ruth worked as a teacher, a Christian Education Director, and a Psychiatric Social Worker. Her career took her to Weyburn, Regina, Whitehorse, Winnipeg, North Battleford (where she met her husband) and Moose Jaw. After retirement, Ruth moved to Regina, where she was able to enjoy friends, church, theatre and music. She was adventurous in her love of travel, going to Cuba, the Cook Islands, China, Thailand, Turkey, and many more out-of-the-way places. A Celebration of Ruth’s Life will be held at Knox Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Monday, June 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation to the United Church Mission and Service Fund, in care of Knox Metropolitan Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK, S4P 0S6, would be appreciated.
