Obituary of Fred Alexander Findlay

FINDLAY, Fred A., born June 11, 1924, of Regina, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2008, at the age of 83. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years Jean; his children Barbara (Sheila Gilhooly) of Vancouver, BC, Duncan (Nora) of Regina, Grant (Ronalee) of Regina, and Sheila of Nanaimo, BC; beloved grandchildren Heather, Sheena, Brock, Robbie, Ben, Molly, Mac and Kate, and grandson by proxy, Mauricio; as well as his sister Doreen (Don Fraser) of Sechelt, BC. He is predeceased by his parents, Fred and Martha Findlay, and by his daughter Katherine and son-in-law Larry. Fred lived all of his life, apart from time with the RCAF, in Regina. He was educated at Davin School and Central Collegiate. He went on to the University of Manitoba, and then served with the RCAF until the end of the war. He met and married Jean and they bought a house across the lane from his family home. They lived in this home their entire married life. He was the owner of the Regina Tent and Awning, which had been his fathers business, until his retirement, when his two sons took over the business. Freds passions were for his family and for playing tennis and badminton, bridge and cribbage. As well, many wonderful summers were enjoyed at the family cottage that Fred built at Katepwa Lake. Funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina on Monday, May 5th at 1:00 p.m. with the Reverend Bob Wilson officiating. As an expression of sympathy, those wishing to remember Fred may make a donation to the Canadian Kidney Foundation, Regina Branch, 1545C McAra Street, Regina S4R 8G9. Flowers are gratefully declined.
