Obituary of Mary Salway

SALWAY, Mary, late of William Albert House, Emerald Park, and formerly of Regina, passed peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, May 15, 2008. Predeceased by her husband William in 1972; father Mansel Edwards in 1960; mother Annie Edwards in 1974; and brother Roy Edwards in 2006. Mary is survived by son Nigel (Judy) Salway of Regina and daughter Patricia (Gary) St. Michel of Vancouver; grandchildren Alexandra and Julia St. Michel, Geena Salway; and sister Nancy (Bill) Lambert of Cowbridge, Wales; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was born in Cowbridge Wales in 1922. She trained as a nurse with the R.A.F. during W.W.II, and later served as Head Sister of several wards at Llandough Hospital in Cardiff. Mary married Bill in 1955. She emigrated to Canada with her family not once, but twice, in 1957 to Winnipeg, and in 1961 to Regina after a two year return to Wales. Mary made Regina her home from that time on, and was active in St. Lukes Anglican Church, St. Davids Welsh Society, St. Georges Society, Prayer Book Society, Monarchist League, and the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a real estate agent in Regina for many years. Mary rose to the challenge of raising her two teenagers alone when Bill died in 1972. Her determination and her wit made her a wonderful mother and a great friend " she will be missed by many. The family wishes to thank the staff at William Albert House for the loving care they gave her. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 from 6:00 " 8:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Funeral Service will be held at St. Lukes Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Canon William Lourens and Rev. Derek Nicholls officiating. Cremation. Interment will be held at a later date. Donations may be made, in Marys memory, to St. Lukes Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina S4S 2B8 or to a charity of choice.
