Obituary of Ronald 'Barry' Routley

ROUTLEY " On Saturday, May 24, 2008, Ronald Barry Routley, late of Regina passed away after a lengthy illness. Born on his fathers farm in Biggar, SK, May 20, 1938, he moved to Saskatoon in the fall of 1942 when his father rejoined the army. He took his schooling in Saskatoon and while at the U of S, he joined the Navy as a UNTD Cadet at HMCS Unicorn in 1957. He taught in Saskatoon and Delisle and later taught adult education in Regina. After a two year contract working for CIDA as a technical adviser in Ghana, West Africa he was appointed field staff for Curriculum Development for the Government of Saskatchewan. Barry continued his involvement with the Navy and joined HMCS Queen when it was re-commissioned in 1975 becoming Commanding Officer " 1986 " 1990. On his retirement from the Navy Reserve he continued his interest in fishing, woodworking, reading, cooking and gardening and decided to take on three paper routes to take care of his early morning rising. As evidence of his persistence and work ethic, he is the only person we know who would have delivered papers for two days on a broken leg. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice; sons Jason (Holly) of Kelowna and Troy (Melody) of Portland, OR; 9 wonderful grandchildren; brothers, Russel (Pat) of Abbotsford, Fred (Olga) of Prince Albert; and sister Betty Reed of Calgary; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family Bob (Patty) Okoh, Michel (Gail) Okoh both of Halifax and Lissa (Guy) Goulet of Montreal. Funeral service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, on Friday, May 30th at 10:30 am with Tim Cheesman officiating. Honorary Pallbearers: Paul Weber, Ken McCaw, Robert and Michel Okoh.
